In March we visited Evenwood Primary School as part of the WATMO project and introduced them to some of the exciting concepts our researchers have been using to discover new things.

The children started by discovering how little blocks of different shapes and sizes could come together to make bigger structures, and experimented with how changing the patterns made by the smaller blocks changed the overall shape of their pattern.

Now the children had seen how different building blocks can make different things, they saw a real life example. They used microscopes and saw how octopuses that looked the same to us were completely different to each other on the micro-scale.

finally, the children investigated sound. They saw how different shapes of tubing made different noises when blown through: and even had a go at harmonising!

Thanks to Alex and Vanessa for completing the visit, and to all the staff and students at Evenwood primary school for making it such an enjoyable and informative experience.
